This non-fiction text examines three grassland areas of the world – African, South American and North American. Geared for a lower elementary school audience (Grades 1-3), there is limited text, simple sentence structures, captioned pictures, and additional information in text boxes, plus “Did you know?” side panels. Large, colourful illustrations dominate each page. Under bold headings, eleven grassland animals are discussed in eleven short two-page chapters e.g. zebra, vulture, grasshopper, rhea, prairie dog, coyote, etc). In the centre of each chapter, a diagram shows the life cycle stages through facts and pictures. On end pages the young reader will find a food web for the ecosystem. Appropriate non-fiction text features include bold type chapter headings, a Table of Contents, Glossary, and Index.
There are four books in the series presently, all published in 2018. All follow the same format: feature eleven animals from a particular ecosystem found on various continents around the world. The books are published in hard and soft cover.
