Little Bird loves new words, especially “Big People” words. When Dad inadvertently loses their dinner one day and says, “Blark!”, Little Bird is entranced. He begins to share his new word with all of his forest friends. Their reaction is not at all what he expects. Instead of praise, his friends seem taken aback, or distressed. Little Bird begins to think this word is a BAD WORD! Dad comes and tells the others that Little Bird did not know what the word meant and is sorry. While this is definitely a moral tale, the message is delivered simply and without judgement, appealing to young readers who have probably have this happen to themselves. In a humourous touch, the last person to use the word is the worm, as he is carried away to become dinner.
