Space Stations is one of 6 titles in a new series, Objects in Space, from Rosen Publishing under their PowerKids Press label. (Rosen Publishing also operates Rosen Digital, producer of the “PowerKnowledge” site on Alberta Learning’s Online Reference Centre – ORC)
The content of this series is aimed at upper elementary students – Grades 4-6. All the books in the series have excellent non-fiction text features to help readers search efficiently for information – Table of Contents, clear large font headings, glossary, index and a limited bibliography. Each double page is a new chapter that has only one page of text balanced by a full page of illustrations on the facing page. The text has some complexity and is printed in white font on the black background of a space photograph. Headings and additional text boxes stand out in yellow font. Written at a Grade 4 Reading Level, with limited text and picture support, these books are accessible to struggling readers and ELL students at higher grades. All six books present useful information that supports the Grade 6 Science unit, Sky Science, and will engage any students interested in space. For additional information students are directed to an online site for weblinks that are monitored and updated by PowerKids Press.
Other titles in the series are: Spacecraft, Probes, Satellites, Space Garbage, Rovers.
