Day Santa Stopped Believing in Harold, The

Reviewed by:

I want to believe.
Santa is moping around just days before Christmas.  He is deeply troubled because he can no longer ‘believe’ in Harold, a young boy who appears to have stopped believing in Santa.
This rollicking tale of Santa coming to terms with the evidence that Harold must no longer exist leaves Santa disheartened and disillusioned. At the same time, Harold is busy collecting evidence that Santa does not exist either.  All this culminates on Christmas Eve when Harold sets out to find proof of Santa’s non-existence as does Santa to prove that Harold no longer exists.  When Harold and his parents discover that Santa is real, they bond over candy canes and playing games. This humorous look at the moment when children begin to question the existence of Santa takes a turn, with Santa questioning the reality of children.  After reading this book, the proof of Santa’s existence remains intact. The colours of the book stay true to the season itself.  The comic-like characters add to the fun of this adventure.

A great read-aloud to grades 2-4, or when children begin doubting the mystic mystery of Santa Claus.
