Written by and for Albertans, Dr. W. Scott Persons IV, an Albertan paleontologist, takes readers on a time travel back to the age of the dinosaurs in this book geared towards grade 3 students and above. The book opens with a map of Alberta and locations where dinosaur fossils can be found. The book is divided into chapters about Alberta’s lost world, finding fossils, time and place, meet the family, dinosaurs in motion and beyond extinction. The layout includes digitally designed illustrations of dinosaurs, photographs of actual dinosaur bones, the location of fossils found in Alberta, headings, and subheadings, as well as text broken into paragraphs and/or captions that explain images. Whenever a dinosaur is named, an image and text box are included. The text box provides the dinosaur’s name, phonetic pronunciation, word meaning, age, habitat, diet, and size in comparison to a human or school bus.
