Colorful Vegetarian Recipes That Are Simple to Make…(for Kids)
This kid-friendly version of her bestselling vegetarian cookbook is a feast for the eyes and tastebuds.   Originally trained as an artist, and later as a food photographer, the layout of this cookbook is unlike any other.  The graphic detail of the book, with its photographs, hand painted illustrations and simple text, as well as the simple layout, with food laid out on organic surfaces e.g. wood boards, natural fibres, makes it a rich resource.  The author was inspired to create recipes her young child could someday make with her.
The forward pages of the cookbook include her biographical information, how to use the book, prep terms, words to know, a list of kitchen tools, and cutting techniques.  The book is sectioned into snacks, drinks, salads, meals, sweets and parties.  A simple table of content and extensive index will help readers find ingredients quickly.  Each recipe contains a full page photograph of the prepared food item with a corresponding page of ingredients and short, concise instructions.  The recipes are kept simple so that children can prepare them with minimal assistance.  The recipes follow the new philosophy that we should be ‘eating the rainbow’, primarily fruits and vegetables.
With the growing number of students who are vegetarians today, whether because of cultural, religious or healthy lifestyle choice, this book will be requested often in a school library.  Young chefs may wish to have a cooking prep party and then feast upon their creations together.  It would make an ideal birthday planning resource.
The companion adult book, The Forest Feast, includes vegetarian recipes which require more preparation.
