Mosquitoland

Reviewed by:

David Arnold’s contemporary debut novel takes you on a road-trip filled with an odd, but interesting, cast of characters. It’s all wrapped up in a charming narrative that is as sweet as it is unsettling.  After her family is torn apart by divorce, Mim discovers that her mom is unwell: That could explain why all communication has stopped. She decides to ditch her dad and new step-mother to find her mom and lend whatever support she needs. Unfortunately, the plan to get back to Cleveland is more complicated than Mim has planned.
Mosquitoland is a stand-alone that is punctuated with Mim’s journal entries and her battles with mental health issues. There are enough twists and turns to keep readers engaged, while the story keeps moving forward. It is a satisfying read filled with quotable lines that the mind wants to savor and is great for the advanced reader.
