Mr. Ferris and His Wheel

Reviewed by:

It’s important for students to be introduced to biographies of famous, courageous and inventive people. And here’s an interesting story about an engineer who had an inventive, crazy idea. This story is true, of course, and Ferris’s unlikely invention is the world’s most magical ride of all time. A great story to use with Grade 4 Science, Building Devices and Vehicles that Move. Students would have fun identifying the various parts and materials used in the Ferris Wheel. A great companion to this book is Giant Ball of String by Arthur Geisert. In this title, characters devise many different devices and simple machines to recapture their ball of string that has been abducted by the neighbouring village. Books like these help to stimulate interest in science in young students.
