My Friend Maggie

Reviewed by:

Paula and Maggie have been close friends since they were babies.  The story of My Friend Maggie is told by Paula.  She lets us know all the ways Maggie is the greatest friend.  Paula also shares a time when she was swayed by the mean girls and forsook Maggie.  The whimsical and expressive illustrations show how sad both friends become as Paula tries to fit in with the “in crowd”.  When Paula is eventually rejected by the “in crowd” Maggie stands up for her.  Paula is amazed at this and so so happy that they are friends again.
My Friend Maggie is a moving story that will help young children learn the true meaning of friendship through all the ups and downs. It is a perfect story to illustrate many of the learning outcomes found in the grade 1 to 3 health curriculum.
