(Narwhal) Peanut Butter and Jelly

Reviewed by:

Part of the Narwhal and Jelly Book series, this graphic novel explores the funny, but the somewhat unrealistic life of two sea creatures; a narwhal, and a jellyfish. Divided into five short stories, each story focuses on personal identity and friendship between these two zany characters.  Jelly has a hard time convincing Narwhal to eat anything but waffles, but once he does convince him to eat something new, he falls in love with peanut butter so much that he changes his name to Peanut Butter.  The hilarity of both these characters is further emphasized by the simply coloured images and bold, easy-to-read text.
Recommended for K-2 readers of graphic novels, as well as being useful for teaching about Character Education: Friendships; Health: Personal Health, and Alberta’s Kindergarten/Grade 1 Social Studies: I am Unique/Identity.
