Panic

Reviewed by:

The author returns to realistic fiction from the popular Delirium Trilogy with a fast-paced thriller set in impovershed Carp, New York, where graduating high school students participate in a high-stakes risky game, Panic, that involves a series of secretive, possibly deadly, physical and mental challenges. Told in alternating voices by Heather and Dodge, two tenacious players with siblings to protect and avenge, this contemporary novel is not just about being pushed to the limits for a chance to win enough money to start a new life, but a story of friendship, loyalty and courage. A high level of tension is constant, building momentum to unlikely heroism and a thrilling ending. The survivalist competition of the Hunger Games comes to mind.
