Continuing on from last year’s stunning Journey, Quest finds our young protagonists encountering rain as they ride their tandem bike. Sheltering under a bridge in a gray world enlivened only by the purple of their magic bird, they are startled by a king in golden robes bursting out of a door and handing them a diagram…or is it a map? As he begins to explain to them, soldiers pour out of the door, seize the king and drag him back in. The door is closed and locked. Fortunately, our heroes have their crayons, red and purple respectively, and are able to draw themselves keys to once again enter the magical world first encountered in Journey. As they decipher the map, for so it seems, they embark on an Indiana-Jones type adventure, traveling to excotic locales to discover artifacts, or are they crayons? With their quick wits and the creative use of their red and purple crayons, they find all they need to defeat the forces of evil. Once again, Becker’s watercolour illustrations are full of incredible detail, making each spread beg for an in depth review. Adventurous and exciting, Quest carries the torch begun with Journey and leaves readers wanting more.
