Did you know that because Saturn is made up mostly of gas it could float… if there were a body of water big enough to hold it…
This informational book for young children presents a myriad of facts about the solar system in a conversational, question and answer style. Facts are interesting and easy to remember because the authors use comparisons to concepts and things that young children understand and to which they can relate. Large full-page colourful illustrations, featuring exuberant animal characters, form the background for the text. In addition to adding humour through the characters’ antics, the illustrations extend the text and help children make the connections. “Did you know that seven new stars are born every year?”; and, the illustration is a “star” nursery where stars are asleep in tiny cribs and playpens alongside their zany animal caregivers.
The question and answer format makes this a good choice for read-aloud in grades 1-3; a fun read for budding astronomers and children with lots of questions.
