Seventeen year old Flora is an interesting teenager with a unique condition – she has anterograde amnesia. A tumor that was removed from her brain when she was ten also took her ability to make new memories. As a result her mind resets itself every two to three hours and she has to relearn the last seven years of her life through the notebook she always carries and the notes she writes on her arms, starting with “Flora be brave.” That is, she cannot make any new memories until she kisses her best friend’s boyfriend, Drake, after the party that will send him off to new adventures.
Flora is convinced that Drake holds the key to unlocking her memory, and Drake has sent some emails encouraging her to join him. She has been left to her own devices after her parents leave to deal with a family emergency in France, so Flora spontaneously decides to trek to Svalbard to find him and try to unlock the rest of her memories.
